Lotus Sutra Exhibition Held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil

From December 3-22, 2010, the exhibition “The Lotus Sutra—A Message of Peace and Harmonious Coexistence” was held at the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The exhibition was held for the first time in South America. Sponsors included the Brazilian Institute of History and Geography (IHGB), the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Rio de Janeiro State University (UNIRIO), the St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Japan-Brazil Cultural Institute (ICBJ), the International Academic Support Center (CEI), the Folha Dirigida Newspaper and SGI-Brazil.
 
Brazilian astronomer Ronaldo Maurão, Academy President Moderno and Yoichi Kawada, Director of the Institute of Oriental Philosophy (IOP), attended the opening ceremony.

One of the visitors at the exhibition said that this was the first time to see such an exhibition in Brazil. He expressed his wish that the exhibition would be held in many other regions as well. Others said that they were touched by the message of the parables taught in Buddhism.
